We provide children with a high quality and nurturing learning environment that allows them to thrive. Every child deserves the best possible start in life, and our skilled practitioners support them in fulfilling their full potential by building strong relationships with each individual and their family. We ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. Every child is unique and is constantly learning; they can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. Our children leave nursery ‘school ready’, with the majority choosing to progress with us at Beckfoot Nessfield. They enter our reception with a broad range of skills and knowledge that provide the foundations for goof future progress through school and life.
Why choose Beckfoot Nessfield Nursery?
Starting nursery
Children can start our Nursery from the day after they turn 3. Once you have registered your interest by filling in an admissions form, your child can visit the nursery with a family member and have a taster session. If this is successful, children are then welcome to start straight away. Some children may need a slower transition and we can work with families to ensure a successful start to school life.
Nursery hours
Our nursery sessions are flexible to help fit with your families needs. We offer 15-30 hours, with the opportunity to ‘top up’ if our numbers allow.
Morning sessions: 8.30am-11.45am
Afternoon sessions: 12:30pm-3.15pm
Full days: 8.30am-3.15pm
Lunch
Children in nursery can either bring a packed lunch or pay for a school dinner if they are staying all day. Nursery pupils eat their lunch in the dining hall with a member of nursery staff.
Staffing
One of the benefits of attending a school nursery is that the children are taught by a qualified teacher and specialist Early Years practitioners. Mrs. Barraclough is our Early Years Lead Teacher.
Learning
In nursery we have a strong focus on the prime areas of learning including personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Communication and Language (CL) and Physical Development (PD). Children have free flow access indoors and outdoors as well as learning sessions on the carpet with an adult. You can find out more about our curriculum and how it links to the rest of school below. We also provide lots of hands on experiences to our pupils, with exciting trips and visits from guests.
Uniform
Children in our nursery wear a uniform like the rest of school. However, they do not need a PE kit. Click the button below to learn more about our uniform.
Willow Wrap Around Care
Our Nursery children also have access to our Willow Wrap Around Care. Our wrap around care offers breakfast club (7:30-8:30) at £4 a session and afterschool club (3:15-6:00) at £9.75 a session.

Ofsted
Ofsted inspected our Early Years in January 2023 and judged it to be ‘good’
The early years is a vibrant and engaging environment. Children in Nursery and Reception are absorbed in a wide range of well-planned activities. Relationships are very strong. Adults interact with children positively with a focus on developing children’s communication and vocabulary. For example, in Nursery, teachers use songs and rhymes to engage children and help them to learn about the sounds in words. Adults develop children’s learning over time through activities that build on previous learning.
“I really couldn’t speak highly enough of nursery at Nessfield. The classroom itself is magical and the teachers are so lovely and approachable. I’ve been blown away at how quickly my child has developed in every way and it’s honestly the best preparation for reception. There are so many opportunities for parents to spend time with children in school and on trips so there’s a real community feel to the school.“
